Super Select Newport 2

The Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport 2 putter is milled in the USA and fashioned from 303 stainless steel. It retains its classic tri-sole design while incorporating the Tour-inspired I-beam plumbing neck, and introduces new dual-milled face technology to deliver the feedback associated with mid-mill putters and a highly consistent putter face. Each Super Select Newport 2 features performance weighting with two customizable heel-toe tungsten sole weights. This Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport 2 putter is currently retailing for $450, but versions of the Newport 2 can be found on SidelineSwap for closer to $350.

Our Expert’s Take:

I once read that the Scotty Cameron Newport 2 is like the George Clooney of putters: it has good looks, of course, but also oozes style and class while producing better than most other putters could dream of. It’s also arguably the most famous putter on the planet, due to Tiger Woods using it in all of his major wins but one. Yet, before you buy, it’s important to know that this is considered an Anser-style putter, which means that the putter head will curve back slightly on the backswing, and do the same on the follow-through. Because of this, the Scotty Cameron Newport 2 is best suited for golfers who have a slight arc to their putting stroke. If this sounds like you, any Newport 2 model would be an excellent investment in your short game.

Super Select Del Mar

The Scotty Cameron Super Select Del Mar putter is a precision milled, solid 303 stainless steel putter that includes customizable stainless steel sole weights, refined flange contours, and the Tour-tested narrower topline. From the back pocket cherry bombs, milled to a machined metal finish, to the new surface-leveled face texture, every refinement to this heel-shafted, compact mallet is an aesthetic and performance improvement. This Scotty Cameron Super Select Del Mar putter is currently retailing for about $450, but versions can be found in the $300 range on SidelineSwap.

Our Expert’s Take:

This Scotty Cameron Del Mar putter is ideal for players who swing with a lot of “toe flow” in their stroke; meaning, players who have more of an arched putting swing. This putter is more forgiving than the average blade putter, as well, due to the weighting on the heel and toe of the club. And while I personally am not a huge fan of this putter’s mid-mallet design, which falls between a traditional mallet head design and a bladed head design, I can see why some golfers would like the unique look. It’s another iconic Scotty Cameron putter that maintains its relevance in the modern game.

Phantom X 9

The Scotty Cameron Phantom X 9 putter features a precision-milled, solid stainless steel face and wings integrated with a rounded 6061 aluminum flange-sole component. Set up for stability through the stroke including a revamped Pistolero Plus grip with a decorative, non-slip texture, this new model with its single bend shaft and clean sight line is built to streamline setup and increase confidence. Lastly, this near-face balanced mallet’s unique profile delivers a “connected” look at the address and offers excellent alignment and high MOI in a clean and compact shape. The Scotty Cameron Phantom X 9 putter is currently retailing for $430, and older versions can be found for as low as $230 on SidelineSwap.

Our Expert’s Take:

This Phantom X 9 putter boasts some of the best balance and feels out of all Scotty Cameron’s offerings. Because of how natural, intuitive, and easeful its swing path is, the Phantom X 9 is a perfect putter for beginning and intermediate golfers who are seeking a Scotty Cameron club. And while I’ve heard that some people dislike that the Phantom X 9’s white alignment line stops before its front of the face, this is a nonissue if you look at your putt’s trajectory from behind the ball. I also absolutely love the unique look of this putter. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more approachable Scotty Cameron putter on the market.

Special Select Flowback 5.5

The Scotty Cameron Special Select Flowback 5.5 comes equipped with a 303 stainless steel head that’s combined with an integrated 6061 aluminum sole plate to allow for proper weight distribution, higher MOI, and pure performance. The Special Select Flowback 5.5 has a new slant back neck inspired by prototype putters, made for players on worldwide professional golf tours, while Scotty’s refined three-red dot “cherry ring” back cavity design brings the entire presentation to life. The Special Select Flowback 5.5 is currently retailing for $400.

Our Expert’s Take:

There’s a lot to like about the Scotty Cameron Special Select Flowback 5.5. Among the biggest benefits of this putter is its mid-milled face, which affects how well the club feels when striking the ball, and assists tremendously with distance control. The Flowback 5.5 is also considered one of the most forgiving Scotty Cameron putters, as its soft face allows putts to come off consistently even when not struck perfectly. Putting is all about feel, and it will be tough to find a putter that feels more fantastic in your hands and throughout your swing than the Flowback 5.5. If you’re looking to take a step up in the course, this putter might be the perfect way to do so.

The Scotty Cameron Phantom X 11 putter is currently retailing for $430, but versions can be found on SidelineSwap from between $330-$350.

Our Expert’s Take:

The Phantom X 11 is largely considered the most forgiving Scotty Cameron putter ever created and among the most forgiving putters of all time. For that reason, it’s a fantastic choice for more beginner golfers who still want to swing an excellent putter. With incredible forgiveness combined with a high MOI, reviewers rave about this putter’s ability to resist twists during the swing stroke and get balls on their intended line before the putt takes place. In addition, the milled stainless steel face produces great feedback, making it easier to judge the weight of each putt. And like the other Phantom X model on this list, I absolutely love this putter’s aesthetic. If this putter is within our price point, you should strongly consider giving it a go.

‏‏‎Conclusion

It was tough to decide which Scotty Cameron putters to feature, only because every single Scotty Cameron putter that’s gone to market in the past 30 years is of the highest quality. Yet, within such a legendary line of putters, these are the five that stand amongst the rest. If you’re serious about your golf game or want to ramp up your skills, purchasing a Scotty Cameron is a great first step to do so. And even if you aren’t intent on improving your handicap, it’s pretty cool to say you have the same putter that Tiger Woods won nearly all his majors with.
