Bauer Supreme S37 Hockey Skates

Product Description:

The Bauer Supreme S37 Senior Hockey Skate is designed for recreational and performance-level players seeking a balance of comfort and performance. It features a fiber composite boot that provides flexibility for good power transfer and a wider range of motion, making it easier to use for new skaters. Comfort is enhanced by lightweight memory foam ankle padding and a 40-ounce felt tongue with a mesh metatarsal guard. The skate also boasts a TUUK Lightspeed Edge holder for easy swapping of blades. While not the top-of-the-line model in Bauer's Supreme line, the S37 offers good value for players looking for a comfortable and supportive skate.

Top competitors comparison: CCM Jetspeed FT480 and the True TF7

The Jetspeed FT480 skates feature a tapered fit and a one-piece boot construction, along with CCM's Rocket Frame composite material and Speedblade XS holder for improved performance. The True TF7 skates prioritize a customizable fit, with options for individual foot measurements and a two-piece thermoformable tongue. Both options provide strong competition with their unique features.

Progression:

The Bauer Supreme S37 hockey skate, unlike some higher-end models in the Supreme line, doesn't have a clear-cut predecessor with a distinct model name. Here’s why:

  • The Supreme line generally caters to players who prioritize power and control for their skating style. The S37 falls within a category of performance-oriented skates positioned below the top-of-the-line models like the 3S Pro.
  • Bauer makes minor adjustments and refinements to existing lines throughout their production cycle. These tweaks often involve material changes, padding updates, or minor holder/blade variations.

What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

PROS:

  • These skates are perfect for players who are new to hockey or looking to upgrade from a recreational model. The fiber composite boot offers a good balance of stiffness and flex, allowing for some power transfer in strides.
  • The Supreme S37 fits true to size and feels comfortable right out of the box. The memory foam ankle padding provides good support, and the liner is surprisingly comfortable. The break-in period was minimal.
  • These skates seem well-made for the price. The materials feel solid, and there haven't been any major complaints about durability online.

CONS:

  • I was disappointed that they were not heat moldable even though I was told they were. Baking accelerated the break in period, but only made the boot wider by a slight amount.
  • After a bake and a sharpen I’ve started to like them. I can tell it’s a quality skate, but tight mid-foot for me.
  • The stock stainless steel blade on the S37 isn't the best quality. It doesnt hold an edge for as long as some higher-end options. However, replacing the blade with a sharper steel is always an option.

Expert notes (by Austin MacDonald)

The S37 features an anatomical fit for a lot of power. It won't have the Space Age memory foam designed by NASA or something, but it will be comfortable. It may feel heavier than the top lightweight pro model, but it's more than enough to last quite a while. It's still a strong skate. And that's common with a lot of skates these days. There's not a ton of difference between the mid-end and the top-end skates. What really separates them is durability and the exact type of comfort features.
