Great head
Really lived this head, performed well for 4 years without breaking. Nice wide shape, but still great for shooting. Used as a two way middle.
Versatile
The ion is probably one of all around best heads for any offense related position, honestly it’s stiff and durable enough for an LSM as well
Great head
It’s very light and has a good face shape. I haven’t experienced any warping with these heads.
Strong, flashy, and tight
My son has this head and uses it as an attackman. I didn’t like it because of how tighter throat area, but he did as an attacker. Many string holes help with exact pocket locations.
Lightweight but fragile
I love how light it is, so much fun to string. However it cracked very easily and I was always very nervous to play at 100% intensity while using it.

Top Competitors
The Maverik Optik 3 boasts a mid-pocket design suitable for powerful shots and controlled passing. The STX Surgeon 900, on the other hand, caters to players who value traditional pocket feel and precise passing. Its wider face shape and deeper pocket offer optimal hold and control over the ball, making it ideal for those who prioritize pinpoint accuracy.
Progression of the ECD Lacrosse Ion
While the Ion doesn't have a directly traceable predecessor, it benefits from ECD's existing knowledge, player feedback, and understanding of the attack lacrosse head market.
👍 Pros
---
Light, well-balanced, and good-looking! Accurate shooting/passing (sort of) guaranteed.
The clear plastic is *beautiful.* Best scoop I've experienced on an ECD head, too.
Shooter's head -- like the Optik 3, but with an even tighter release.
👎 Cons
---
It's pretty fragile. Lots of reports of the head breaking at the throat.
After a season the throat started to crack. Love the look and feel but needs work.
It's been okay. Stringing it wasn't easy.
The Ion is super light. I've used the same head for 1 1/2 years, and it's still lasted. Not a crack! And I haven't needed to get it restrung. The head doesn't warp, and it's held up great. The Ion is perfect for players who like light setups.
