TaylorMade Stealth 2 Hybrid Buying Guide

Product Description

The TaylorMade Stealth 2 Hybrid is a versatile club designed to replace long irons in your bag. It excels in distance, forgiveness, and playability, making it an excellent option for a wide range of golfers. Key features include Advanced Inverted Cone Technology for maximum ball speed and distance, even on off-center hits, Thru-Slot Speed Pocket for more ball speed and forgiveness on mishits, especially on shots struck lower on the face, and V Steel Sole Design for smooth turf interaction. The TaylorMade Stealth 2 Hybrid comes with a non-adjustable head which doesn’t allow golfers to tune in their performance. However, that weight saved from the hosel is used elsewhere in the head to provide even more forgiveness.

Perfect club for: Golfers who struggle with long irons or desire more forgiveness off the fairway.

Key features include:

  • Advanced Inverted Cone Technology: Varies the thickness of the clubface to create a larger sweet spot, maximizing ball speeds across the face, even on off-center hits.

  • Thru-Slot Speed Pocket: A channel that runs through the sole of the club behind the face. It flexes on impact, particularly on lower hits, to increase ball speed and forgiveness on mishits.

  • Precision CG Placement: The center of gravity is strategically positioned in the clubhead to promote a higher launch angle.

  • V Steel Sole Design: A wider sole with strategically placed weight for improved turf interaction, helping the clubhead glide smoothly through the turf at impact.

  • Multiple Loft Options: Ranging from 19 degrees to 28 degrees or higher, allowing golfers to choose the loft, ensuring proper gapping within the set.

Top competitors comparison: the Callaway Paradym Hybrid and the Titleist TSi3 Hybrid

Like the Stealth 2 Hybrid, the Paradym Hybrid prioritizes distance and forgiveness. However, Callaway achieves this through their Jailbreak A.I. technology. This uses artificial intelligence to design an ultra-stable titanium chassis for maximum ball speed. Some golfers may prefer the adjustability features on the Paradym over the Stealth 2. The Titleist TSi3 Hybrid prioritizes a balance of distance, forgiveness, and playability. With the help of an Active Recoil Channel, the TSi3 flexes at impact, storing and releasing energy for more ball speed. It also features SureFit CG Technology, which allows golfers to adjust the center of gravity position to optimize launch characteristics for their swing.

Progression:

There was a TaylorMade Stealth fairway wood but not a Stealth 1 Hybrid. The Stealth 2 Hybrid is the successor to the original TaylorMade SIM 2 Hybrid. Here's how they differ:

TaylorMade SIM 2 Hybrid (2021):

  • Offered a titanium construction for the clubhead.
  • Featured a Speed Pocket technology designed to increase ball speed on mishits.

TaylorMade Stealth 2 Hybrid (2023): Builds upon the distance capabilities of the SIM 2 Hybrid while incorporating advancements in forgiveness and playability:

  • More Inverted Cone Technology: This refined technology creates a larger sweet spot for more consistent distance, even on off-center hits.
  • Improved Thru-Slot Speed Pocket: This improved design allows for more face flex on lower hits, resulting in increased ball speed and forgiveness on mishits.
  • Precision CG Placement: A more strategic CG position promotes a higher launch angle for easier ball flight and better control on approach shots
  • V Steel Sole Design: This sole design enhances turf interaction for smoother clubhead passage through various lies, improving playability.

What people are saying (edited for clarity and brevity)

PROS:

  • I struggle with long irons, so I settled on this Hybrid. I'm pretty blown away at the shot shaping I can do, even without it being adjustable.
  • This thing is VERY easy to hit high if I need to land it soft.
  • I just recently started using hybrids. I'm now on season 2 with the Stealth Hybrid, and my 4H is my favorite club to hit in my bag. It’s like a rocket!

CONS:

  • I was concerned that it wasn't adjustable, but without that, you just have to rely on yourself to create more or less loft.
  • For the money, TM should provide an adjustable hosel like the other best-in-class hybrids on the market.
  • It goes a little too straight, and I find myself in every bunker on the left, waiting for my fade to kick in.
